Research ~ Duane Michals

Michals' interest in art "began at age 14 while attending watercolor university classes at the Carnegie Institute. He describes his photographic skills as "completely self-taught. His is known as an American photographer. He had no formal training but recognized his photographic aptitude when he took his first pictures as a tourist - he was earning his living through commercial work, including portraiture and fashion photography.
As a portraitist, he has photographed a considerable number of the well-known artists and actors of the 20th century, many of them his close friends.
Michals couldn't care less to what film or camera his is using when taking his photo. He just uses what he has at the time and captures the images he wants to with no effort at a
ll. He is more interested in the thing that he can not catch on camera. Things that maybe no one else would be able to or even think about getting a photo of.
Here is an example of his work:
This is an example of his work - i like this piece because it like the way its not just a single photo it goes clearly through all the stages of what's happening! He photographs most his work in back and white - i think that personally add a nice vintage effect to his photos. He does quite a large range of his work like this, here is another example:
Again he bases most his work in a grid formate - i think the message of this image is quite hard to understand as it is a strange thing to photograph. But again he captures the photos in the order that they happen so creating a series of events. He catches the unusual things that other people might not!
